Thailand is one of the most extraordinary freshwater fishing destinations on earth — and the species list is the reason why. Nowhere else in the world can you walk up to a lake and realistically target an Arapaima the size of a man, a Giant Mekong Catfish that could fill a bathtub, a hard-charging Amazon Redtail Catfish, and a surface-smashing Giant Snakehead all in the same day. Bangkok's fishing parks and wild reservoirs hold an incredible mix of native Thai giants and exotic imported species that draw serious anglers from every corner of the globe. Whether you have one day or one week, a target species in mind or just an appetite for something extraordinary — Thailand will deliver. Here's what's waiting for you.

Willi returns once again — this time bringing his fishing partner Robert for what became the longest and most ambitious guided fishing trip Bangkok Fishing Guide has ever hosted. Over 26 extraordinary days in 2026, Willi and Robert fished Bangkok's finest lakes and ventured out to new lakes in the Northeast racking up an incredible species list and memories that will last a lifetime. From Giant Mekong Catfish at Bungsamran to Arapaima at Amazon BKK, and everything in between — this is what a serious fishing holiday in Thailand looks like. Here's how the trip unfolded.

Thai Nana Fishing — Amazonian Giants
As with previous years, we kicked off Willi and Robert's 26-day trip at Thai Nana Fishing — and for good reason. Thai Nana is simply the best place near Bangkok to shake off the travel and scratch that fishing itch fast. The lake is loaded with Amazon Redtail Catfish that hit hard from the very first session, keeping both anglers busy with rod-bending action while they waited for the main event. And the main event at Thai Nana is always the Arapaima — one of the largest freshwater fish on the planet and the species that draws serious anglers from every corner of the globe to Bangkok's fishing lakes. The Redtails are not just time-fillers here — these are powerful, hard-charging fish in their own right that would be the highlight of most fishing trips anywhere else in the world. But at Thai Nana, when an Arapaima finally shows up and the water erupts, everything else fades into the background. A perfect way to open what would become an extraordinary 26 days on the water.

Amazonia Fishing Oasis — Five Days in Nakhon Ratchasima
This was one of the most special stops on the entire 26-day trip — and not just for the fishing. Amazonia Fishing Oasis in Nakhon Ratchasima is a brand new lake with a story that made this visit particularly meaningful. The owner, David, was once our client — one of the many visiting anglers who fell in love with fishing in Thailand and never quite looked back. Now that he has built his own lake from the ground up, we weren't going to miss the chance to turn the tables and become his guests instead. It's one of those full-circle moments that makes this industry so special.
Willi and Robert spent five days at Amazonia Fishing Oasis and enjoyed every single one of them. The on-site accommodation was top notch — exactly what you need after a long day on the bank — and David's partner Aor kept everyone well fed with outstanding cooking throughout the stay. David and Aor even took the group out to dinner in town one evening for some long-missed European cuisine, which was a very welcome treat after weeks on the road. The hospitality at this lake is genuinely exceptional and something that sets Amazonia Fishing Oasis apart from a standard fishing destination.
As for the fishing — the primary target was the Piraiba, one of the most powerful and sought-after giant catfish species in the world, and while the Piraiba didn't cooperate this time around, the lake more than delivered in every other department. The guys landed Giant Siamese Carp, Giant Mekong Catfish, Alligator Gar, Amazon Redtail Catfish, Firewood Catfish, a stunning Albino Redtail Catfish, and a rare Tiger Shovelnose and Redtail Catfish hybrid — a species combination that very few anglers anywhere in the world can say they've caught. The variety across five days was extraordinary and left both Willi and Robert thoroughly satisfied. Amazonia Fishing Oasis is a lake we will absolutely be returning to — and one we highly recommend to any angler looking to combine world-class exotic fishing with genuine warmth and hospitality in the heart of Thailand.

Don't let the size of this lake fool you — Wasana Fishing Park in Pattaya is one of those places that quietly blows you away. With over 60 species in the water and some seriously impressive fish across the board, this compact lake packs more variety into a single session than most anglers will encounter in years of fishing elsewhere. The headline species at Wasana is the Julien's Golden Carp — a beautifully proportioned, hard-fighting fish that grows to a remarkable size here and is available in numbers that make it a genuinely reliable target rather than a lucky bonus catch. For any angler who has never encountered a Julien's Carp before, Wasana is the place to tick that box in style.
Beyond the fishing, what makes Wasana Fishing Park truly special is the atmosphere that Craig and his family have created around the lake. The hospitality here is warm, genuine, and the kind that keeps anglers coming back year after year — and it's easy to see why. Willi and Robert were no exception, thoroughly enjoying every moment of their time at Wasana. It's one of those destinations where the experience around the fishing is just as memorable as the fishing itself. A wonderful addition to what was already shaping up to be an epic 26-day trip, and a lake we highly recommend adding to any extended fishing itinerary in Thailand.
