Thailand is one of the most extraordinary freshwater fishing destinations on earth — and the species list is the reason why. Nowhere else in the world can you walk up to a lake and realistically target an Arapaima the size of a man, a Giant Mekong Catfish that could fill a bathtub, a hard-charging Amazon Redtail Catfish, and a surface-smashing Giant Snakehead all in the same day. Bangkok's fishing parks and wild reservoirs hold an incredible mix of native Thai giants and exotic imported species that draw serious anglers from every corner of the globe. Whether you have one day or one week, a target species in mind or just an appetite for something extraordinary — Thailand will deliver. Here's what's waiting for you.

Bungsamran
Bungsamran is the most famous fishing lake in Bangkok — and arguably in all of Thailand. If you've read about fishing in Thailand anywhere online, there's a good chance Bungsamran is the lake in the photos. Home to massive Giant Mekong Catfish and hard-fighting Giant Siamese Carp, this is the destination for anglers who want the best possible chance of doing battle with a truly enormous fish. Mekong Catfish of 30–50kg are a regular occurrence, and the lake record fish push well beyond 100kg. The Siamese Carp are equally impressive — mirror-scaled giants that fight with a bulldogging power that makes most other species feel tame by comparison.
Bungsamran has a reputation among independent travellers for being something of a tourist trap, and without a knowledgeable guide that reputation is deserved. Our team knows the lake inside out — which pegs fish best, which rigs produce in each season, and how to consistently put clients on fish when others are struggling. With Bangkok Fishing Guide alongside you, Bungsamran becomes what it should be: one of the best days of fishing you'll ever have.
Note: Bungsamran has recently relocated to a new site with significantly improved facilities, better access, and an excellent stock of Mekong Catfish and Siamese Carp.
